Blaszczynski brothers carve up Sutherland Sharks in Waratah Basketball League
Parramatta's basketball brothers Stefan and Kristian Blaszczynski have carved up the Sutherland Sharks on Saturday night at the Auburn Basketball Centre (ABC), leading the Wildcats to an impressive 97-68 victory in round six of the 2010 Waratah Basketball League (WBL) competition.
The Wildcats were missing regular starters Goran Veg, Graeme Dann, Clint Reed and Sam McBeath yet never missed a beat against the previously winless Sharks, cruising to a 29-14 lead at the first break and never letting the Sharks have a sniff of victory.
The Blaszczynski brothers were just sublime in their respective roles, with Stefan playing the elegant, stylish craftsman playing on the perimeter, whilst Kristian was a tireless, exuberant worker in the paint, mixing it up with the Sharks big men and coming up trumps all night.
The chemistry between the brothers bordered on simply freakish at times, with no-look passes from Stefan always finding their target in brother Kristian, muscling his way to the hoop.

Their combination simply crushed the Sharks from the outset, with the Wildcats racing to an 18-2 lead in the early stages and maintaining a double-digit margin throughout the game.
Both brothers had recorded double-doubles by the half time break and whilst three Wildcats players had broken into double figure scores, the Sharks were struggling to find a champion.
Wildcats head coach John Hennessy ran his entire bench for extended minutes throughout the game, relishing the opportunity to give every player on his all-star squad some valuable court time and thus helping build their individual values within the team.
Stefan Blaszczynski finished the game with 39 points (@ 56%) and 16 boards, Kristian had 16 points and 15 boards and Causevic 25 points (7/11 from 3-point range), while BJ Carter (18 points), Owen Johnson 16 and John Chaumont 14 were the best for the Sharks.

Sutherland and Sydney FC's Servet Unzular off to Asian Cup
Following her Sydney FC player of year award, Sutherland's Servet Unzular is one of seven Sky Blues selected by Westfield Matildas Head Coach Tom Sermanni in a 23 player squad to travel to Chengdu, China, to compete in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2010 from 19-30 May.
The seven Sky Blues were selected following intensive camps in Canberra and the Gold Coast and matches against New Zealand and DPR Korea and will gather on the Gold Coast on May 4 to begin final preparations before their May 11 departure to China.
Headlining the Matildas line-up are Sydney FC players Heather Garriock, Leena Kharmis, Kylie Ledbrook, Kyah Simon, 2009 Player of the Year Servet Unzular, Sarah Walsh and Teigen Allen.
Allen, 17, joins Sam Kerr, Sally Shipard and Ellyse Perry as one of the youngest players ever to appear for the Westfield Matildas at a major international competition.
After losing their opening game of the 2009 W-League season, Sydney FC went undefeated for the rest of the campaign and went on to claim the domestic double following their 3-2 Grand Final triumph over the Brisbane Roar.
The AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2010 consists of eight teams competing for three places available in next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011 in Germany.
Australia will play host nation heavyweights China, South Korea and Vietnam in Group B with DPR Korea, Japan, Myanmar and Thailand making up Group A.
The top three teams in the tournament will qualify for the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup.
Making the semi-finals, which requires finishing first or second in Group B, is Westfield Matildas Head Coach Tom Sermanni’s primary target.
"First and foremost, we would like to make it to the last four. If we can make it, we will try our best to make it to the final,” Sermanni said.
“Winning the (AFC) Asian Cup would be a massive result for this relatively young team.”
“The World Cup route through Asia is extremely difficult as four of the top 15 teams in the World come from this zone.
“This will be a tough test but the squad we have assembled continues to surprise me with how well they have gelled and I’m sure they will cause some surprises next month in China.”
