The most obvious difference when comparing this country’s current internet experience with those of other nations with ‘true’ broadband is most easily observed when viewing video.
However with the planned introduction of really fast broadband there will be no more 75mm square boxes with a clock that seems to twirl for ever only to stop almost as soon as it starts to buffer some more data.
Full screen images, loading virtually immediately and running with TV type picture quality is what the mooted Fibre to the Node network will provide most metropolitan internet users within two years – whether Howard or Rudd is in charge in Canberra.
What this means for online directories (SmartPages anyway) is that customers will be able to run TV commercials and purpose built videos as part of their listing/s and also link them to company websites.
Effectively companies will be able to change their visitor/prospects’ ‘static’ website experience (like reading a newspaper or magazine) to the equivalent of watching and interacting with ‘dynamic’ digital television.

Note – if your browser is Internet Explorer v7 or Mozilla Firefox and you have reasonable broadband you will be able to view video full screen although it will pixelate slightly.
Yoctv.com and SmartPages have been testing these clips (normal size) with overseas viewers and have had excellent responses from as far away as the UK. If you notice any delays it will likely indicate a problem with your own internet connection – either a larger pipe is required or too many people are logged on at the same time.
